Morocco has reaffirmed its status as Africa’s new sports capital after unveiling three state-of-the-art stadiums within just two days — a major milestone in its final preparations for hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The North African nation inaugurated the newly built Marrakech Stadium, alongside the renovated Tangier Grand Stadium and Fez Stadium, in a series of high-profile ceremonies attended by top government officials, CAF delegates, and international football icons.
The new and upgraded arenas are part of Morocco’s ambitious sports infrastructure drive, aimed at showcasing world-class facilities and reinforcing its readiness to host the continent’s most prestigious football event.
Each of the stadiums meets FIFA and CAF elite standards, boasting advanced turf technology, cutting-edge lighting systems, modern media centers, and enhanced fan amenities. The Marrakech Stadium, in particular, has drawn praise for its innovative design and environmental sustainability features, including solar-powered systems and smart water management.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe lauded Morocco’s commitment to excellence, describing the new facilities as “a benchmark for African football infrastructure.”
The Moroccan government has invested heavily in sports development over the past decade, with upgrades to stadiums in Casablanca, Rabat, Agadir, Fez, and Tangier, ensuring that all AFCON host cities meet global standards.
The completion of these projects comes as Morocco intensifies preparations for AFCON 2025, which is expected to be one of the best-organized tournaments in the competition’s history. The nation is also co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal — a testament to its growing reputation as a trusted and capable global football destination.
